(that actually gets a laugh out of him, considering the fact that he absolutely does not want to.)
What for? It ain't like you ain't coming.
(he watches the descend, the laugh dying down but still present in the corners of his smile as claude lands. he can say whatever he wants - mikey imagines claude from a feudal land, no electricity, much less something as advanced as a bike, so that's reason for a second laugh.)
Yeah, it's my bike - it's a her. I'm sure you heard the engine before.
(for illustrating his point, he gives the bike a little start, for the engine to sound. characteristic as babu, but honestly, that's probably the only bike out there - so, just a bike...)
Careful with that pipe over there, Claude, and get on the back of it. Hold onto me, and try to follow a bit with my movements, okay?
Only because I had nothing better to do, I'll have you know!
[ He would have come no matter what. Getting to ride on one of these infernal machines is too fascinating, too tantalizing of an offer to pass up. The way he circles around Babu is much like one may circle around an elephant at the zoo, cautiously inspecting this and that with a gleam of mingled curiosity and caution in his eyes. He knows that everyone in Manjiro's gang rides one of these, back where he's from.
It's hard to tell what he's thinking when he plants his hands on his hips and regards him, but what he's actually imagining is being on the receiving end of one dozen, two dozen, fifty, one hundred of these metal beasts. Perhaps not as intimidating as staring down an army of wyvern riders, but plenty intimidating in a very, very different way. ]
Okay, [ he says, as though only just now agreeing he'll go for a ride, hopping onto the bike and looping his arms around Manjiro's waist. He jumps a little as he gets on properly, a grin in his voice, the rumble of the seat traveling up his spine. ]
It's like she's breathing! I heard the engine before, but this is something else!
[ Follow his movements. Just like wyvern riding. He's got this. ]
(he'll pretend like he bought it - but his ego is too big, so even if he wouldn't come regardless, he'll believe claude would either way. sorry, claude, the boy is egocentric like that. either way, he won't start the bike until he feels like claude is comfortable and secure, but with how excited claude's voice sounded near his ear, it makes him have the engine roar again. it's... just cute. he can't help how cute he finds he beanpole of a man holding on him.)
She is, as far as I'm concerned! Growling!
(there's a laughter that comes through his words, and with the confirmation he may go, he does - it's not slow by any means, a medium speed so that claude can understand how to turn and how to move with him as needed before he punches on the speed. nothing too dangerous - he might be great on a bike and a race, but two people does hinder some of the maneuvers he can do.
either way, he's focused on the road, on the way the breeze of summer gently kisses on his skin, messing up the hair he had put in a bun, and the smell of salt that approaches as they ride towards the beach.)
[ It's a different experience, riding on something so fast and so inorganic. He's used to racing around on horses and wyverns until the cows come home, but there's something that feels safe and reassuring about the swell of their breath, their natural responsiveness, watching their ears twitch and quiver and their lips curl, to truly be able to read his companion. In comparison, a beast like this motorcycle seems much more difficult to master, impassive and impervious to what may come their way. If they were to round the corner to some grand beast, a bike would not rear up and circle around, but would continue moving forwards as long as Manjiro urged it to.
(He is not aware, of course, that others consider the unpredictability of living things as the very reason why machines are safer -- but even if he was, he'd maintain his own position.)
It's a lovely thing, though, the wind in his hair, the whizzing of scenery so much closer than it is on the wyvern, so much more immediate, the salt in the air, the thrill of going ever faster and faster. ]
Whoooo! [ It doesn't count as a scream if he's enjoying it, does it? ] How fast can this thing go?!
(once he feels more comfortable, certain of claude's safety, he will incline in the curves, rush at the narrower paths, the happiness in claude's 'whoo' fuel for him to actually show instead of tell - it's not that bad, 163km/h, but he doesn't hold it for too long solely because they reach the destination. he barely noticed it before finally sinks his foot on the ground, a few meters away from sand.)
163 kilometers per hour. It's not much, but for how old this bike is? Definitely really cool.
(also great for ignoring traffic security, none of them have a helmet... but it's totally cool. he figures claude's long legs actually will do him favors to climb out of the bike, so there's... actually no offer to help, sorry, he's not thoughtful like that...
but he gestures towards the sand, leaving his boots by babu and taking the keys.)
Come on. The stuff is for you, I just wanted to spend time.
